Adding a patio trellis can add usable living area to your home, as well as increase its value. Coming in all shapes and sizes, these patio coverings provide needed shade in the hot summers, and can be adorned with drapes or others materials to provide an oasis in your yard.
We recently built this large trellis with the design and guidance of one of our master carpenters, Larry McCarroll. This large trellis measures roughly 20W x 20L x 11H and will eventually be stained with a deck stain, once the pressure treated wood dries out.
Using pressure treated wood is a cost-effective building material versus redwood or cedar, and is the most common wood of choice in the southern states. It takes stains well, but the familiar green tint resulting from the water-proofing treatment process will cause a blotchy staining job. It is best to allow the wood to dry out for a couple of weeks prior to staining, and using an opaque, rather than a translucent, stain works best.
